Traditional Sushi restaurant hours???

Is there some kind of cultural or traditional reason that sushi restaurants are closed from 2:00pm to 4:00pm??? I wanted nothing more than some sushi yesterday at a 2:35pm and not ONE restaurant in this town was open. ARGH!

And they all had the same hours: 11am-2pm and 4pm-8pm. Does anyone know if there is some reason for this other than a late afternoon nap?
