Where do you draw the line for safety in training.

Do some train too safe, just as others train too hard?
Micheal, do heretics ever get the girls?

Ok, I have only trained about a year with only 1 class a week available, so usually I would be a bit rusty during ukemi, so I was very cautious. Too cautious, during one practice I started to do a roll from my left side (which was my bad side) and then I tried to stop or something and ended up getting a minor shoulder seperation. When I get back after basketball is over I want to train a lot harder.

Colin you just go into edit and delete the extra post. Unless of course your time limit is expired.

On to safety in practice. It really is the most important consideration and I really don't think it needs to be compromised in hard training.

Train to the level of the less skilled partner.

Work to improve that level.

On to Colin's example. I have seen a number of cases where overt caution actually caused the mishap. He is not unique in fact, two weeks ago I did about the same thing. Nothing seperated but flat on my back gasping for breath. All because I changed ukemi in mid flip - why I still don't know.
