Wow! That is both easy and very difficult at the same time. What is different about schools is often like the diffence in churches, only there is not much dogma in aikido schools to repesent the fullness of the various systems. Mostly the variences deal with ways of communicating "aikido" , Some schools stress techniques and some stress mindset. Some focus on rigourous exercise and others on moving meditations and any variety in between. The big break down in schools occur when the Ego runs the school not vice versa, visit schools "any school" without bias and try to see if the school fits you, not vice versa. Of cousre that is just my opinion and sisnce no one else fielded the question i desided to attemt to answer this most unanswerable question. i hope i helped, good luck and much happiness...

It really is all about the teacher and the other students - will you fit in.

However, much as I hate short descriptions try Introduction at http://www.aikidofaq.com

You can try this article:

http://www.aikidojournal.com/new/article.asp?ArticleID=29

Or http://www.shugenkai.com/astyles.htm

Both will give you a general backround of the various styles.

That said, there can be a great variety within various dojos in a given style. What will be most important is what the local dojos are like, so go visit them all.
