Hmmm, according to the website I found Camp Pendelton is near San Diego. I'm sure if you did a dojo search here on Aikiweb and set it to the max radius you'd get a metric ton of schools to choose from.

Out of curiosity I ran the search. The
results show 20 aikido dojo in a 75 mile radius of San Diego.

There are only 23 aikido schools in the entire state of Michigan on the Aikiweb search engine :D

Consider yourself fortunate. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting an aikido dojo in SoCal. I hear sunset cliffs is outstanding (Iwama "flavor").

Chiba Sensei is also based in San Diego. He is one of the founders students living in the States, certainly not someone to miss.

Check out San Diego Aikikai

I used to be a student at Aikido Mission Valley, and found it great. Students very friendly, sensei is a good person and smart teacher. But it's a young dojo, lots of relative beginners.

...of which I was one.

(Sorry, I didn't like the way that last post sounded at the end.)

You could check out our dojo near the back gate of CamPen. Kenshinkan Dojo (Aikido of North County) is located on Melrose, about five minutes from the back gate. It is a great place to train and populated with some really terrific folks. Ken MacBeth Sensei is a caring teacher and we are heavily weighted with yudansha. For junior students like myself, it is like having fifteen personal instructors each training session. BTW, we are also heavily populated with Marines; current and former.

Michael

If you are in the Oceanside area there are several. Ken McBeth has an AAA affiliated dojo (hombu affiliate) in North County. I also believe Francis Takahashi sensei has a dojo in the Oceanside area (or one of his students). If you are on the other side (San clemente or Orange County side I believe there are dojos there as well. Aiki-Web search is your best bet or go to the dojo directory in Aikido Today Magazine.

Andy,

About 30 minutes from Camp Pendleton, in the City of Vista, is the Yoshinkan Aikido Shobukan dojo. An excellent teacher with excellent resources.

Good luck in your journey. As everyone stated, there are lots of schools to choose from.
