I'd love to see it happen, but don't you think we should ask the webmaster (ie- mr akiyama) rather than each other?

It's something I've actually played around with. One option that I've actually tried out in private is running an IRC server here (which isn't too hard) coupled with a Java client on the website for those who aren't IRC savvy. Another option I've checked into has been another Java client that doesn't require IRC. In pretty much all cases, though, a client that would run on the website would require Java...

actualy, you can sign up with a number of different places on the web that provide chat services and just link to it from the website Jun. You get more functions if you pay them but you get nice little chat rooms even for free.

Please don't make a chatroom - then I would NEVER get any work done....

Please add a chat line! There is so much information to be shared on this beautiful art! It would be more beneficial ( selfish motive) to share this info in real time.
Of course this is just my humble opinion!
But then again...as JJF said..we would never get any work done!!

I'll see what I can dig up and get working. Thanks for the suggestions on improving the site, folks! I appreciate it.

I don't like the idea of a chat room. I can't say way so much as it seems less formal and more informal. Also I rarely ever post, I think this is my second, but I enjoy reading the forums. If you were to add a chat room people would go in there, and not post on the boards, thus making for less opinions and not everyone would get to read/think/post about the topic.

I hope you see what I am trying to say.

Thanks for you time,
-Jonathan

nonsense. if that were the case then everyone would just post on the mailing list and not on the boards. and that isn't happening at all.

Jun...how about a poll on this? how many for and how many against a chat room for this website before any real decisions are made?

Jun -
Since I seldom if ever use any chat room, it would not make much difference to me.

However, I would note that the generally thoughtful level of posts in the various forums (fora/fori?)is what keeps my interest here. A chat room generally degenerates into a lot of LOL,LOFL, WTF, WTO, NCAA, WCW, etc. initials which carry very little information.

So, no, I am against it.

I think that whether or not to have a chat room would depend on how many people are logged on at the same time, otherwise the room would be a very lonely place to be.

If there are enough, however, there should be different rooms. Otherwise, things could get confusing if there are multiple topics.

I also doubt the forums will be affected, as people will want to post their questions/comments for feedback from others who are not online.

Either way, it couldn't hurt in trying, other than more work for you Jun. ;)
