I'm the embroidery digitser for a l'il manufacturing company, and I'm just playing around, I was wondering if anyone with a keener eye than I could confirm that, post-digitisation, and embroidery, that this does in fact still read Ai Ki and Do.

If so, then I'll quickly embroider it onto my yellow belt (in preparation for my 7th kyu test this coming Sunday) whilst the boss is away :D

I'm not a native reader, but it looks good to me.

I checked it against the kanji on my Iwata hakama and it looks very close. The "Do" on my hak is a little clearer, though.

The actual finished version is only 2.5cm x 6cm so it is quite tiny, so smaller errors are get-away-able.

One suggestion was to thin the characters a little, to make them more defined, but i wonder if this would simply.. make the errors easier to spot :D

Looks good to me. (Which doesn't mean a great deal, I'm afraid, I recognise a few kanji, but thats about as far as my knowledge goes.)

If your l'il manufacturing company has a machine that'll embroider kanji onto a belt, I dont suppose they'd be interested in doing small batches of them as a sideline, would they? It seems to be very difficult to get belts/gis embroidered in this country, there might be a nice little niche market for them.

There are a lot of embroidery companies around, but most seem to charge heinous amounts for belt embroidery, which doesn't really make much sense, It's no different to any other embroidery really. One thing we can't do is make badges, we don't have the machine that stiches the edges, so my badge is actually embroidered onto the Gi itself. I've no intention of changing association anyway, and it's probably a good job, now :D

We've only recently been trained on how to use the software and whatnot, so it's a constant learning process, but we'll pretty much do anything. I didn't want this to turn into an advertisement or anything, so I won't say anymore, but if you want to drop me a line, we can discuss things elsewhere? d@poppicock.com is the nearest I have to a works address :)

By the way Sean, was it you who reccomended Miloms? I obtained an extra-long yellow belt from them yesterday in preparation for Sunday, thanks for the reccomendation, if it was indeed yourself :)

Excellent work, very nice indeed. I wonder if people will start asking you where you got your 'badge'. If you're not careful you could end up with more work than you can handle. :)

Your gi looks like a good fit now, glad you got that sorted out.
By the way Sean, was it you who reccomended Miloms?
Yep, that was me, I get all my gi from there. (Everything, funnily enough, except the belt.) I'm glad it was useful to you.

People at the KAA dojo can have their Gi's embroidered, but whereas before they used to buy their badges through Sensei, they still do so. So the dojo still gets a cut of the price to help pay for keepings, and all.

Thanks for the comments on my Gi, I still have to wear a T-shirt beneath it (until I lose some more of my tummy) other than in photos when I can stand still :D

but yes, It's moulded itself to my shape quite nicely :)
