Hello im new to the forms and hopefully you can help me with a question….
I have decided that aikido is the style I wish to study and am currently looking into finding a few clubs around my area. But what I want to find out is if most aikido clubs do training with the sword and staff or do the not really do this in Aikido??

Any help will be greatly appreciated :)

Some clubs do a lot jo (staff) and bokken (sword), and it varies down to none at all. Iwama dojos and those who do Nishio aikido do more than most others. From what I can find in the dojo search engine, some of the Dublin clubs do sword work from Kashima Shin Ryu. This is not the most common aikido weaponry, but for instance Christian Tissier teaches it.

Kevin,

You could try this resource

http://www.aikidoinireland.org/admin/dispdojos.php3?dojo_id=13

A few of the guys from my club have visited the Whitefriars club (http://www.aikidoireland.ie/Welcome-24.html) a number of times, one of my teachers (Aubrey Smith) is one of their technical advisors. They said that it was a great place to train.

Bryan

I never visited the dojos in Dublin, but I did meet some people from the Whitefriare Aikido Club and from the Public Service Aikido Club.

They are very nice and friendly people.
