Ok been a while since ive been here but i just started up aikido again. And the most annoyin thing is still happing. When I practice my belt rises up and up. No one else in my class experiences this problem, and although its not a terribly big one its very very annoying every time you do a fall to have to readjust. Ive tried tieing it really really tight, tieing it lose, and tieing it low on my hips. Im a pretty skinny guy so maybe that is the problem but what is your guys way of tieing so it does not move around.

I'm skinny...5 foot 10 and 125 pounds. Mine does move around sometimes, but only on kata dori stuff, usually, and warm ups...and it's not just up, but side to side also (more, actually).
I tie mine tight and around mid-waist (belly-botton height) and it stays there. Doesn't affect my breathing, either. *shrug* Might have something to do with how slick it is... Mine's pretty coarse so it sticks to my gi pretty well.

I had this problem, and now I tie a weird-looking doubleknot (regular knot, and a knot on top of it).
Needless to say I try not to land on my stomach.

speaking of doubleknots. I have got an animation on how to make such a knot. In my experience it won't get loose.
I prefer the regular one, though.

but it's not about getting loose but about moving around, right? how about sew two simple loops on each side like the ones holding your jeans belt up? I'm sure that helps?

I think its loose knot. His knot could be slipping allowing for to much slack making the belt loose.
Tighter knot and a couple helpings of Wendys burgers should fix that problem

I wish I had a picture of it,
I've learned to tie a knot that is flat and
locked and will last a whole night of intense training.
First allow ca. 50 cm beltend hanging from your hip (belt should always be tied over the hip - not on top of it ),
roll the belt around 2 times in a overlaying fashion, tighten and pull around until beltends are of equal length,
place outer end under both wraps at center,
pull up and tighten,
flip inside end up and let outside end wrap
around it like you would a normal knot,turn ends 180 dgr. down and out,
tigthen a little then squeeze ends down between the overlapping wraps and work it 'til they're complete tucked in behind the knot,work the knot until it's flat
and there you go !
