Aikido Center of South Texas is proud to host an aikido seminar on the weekend of June 7-8, 2003 at the Mission Fitness Center, 1135 E. Bus 83, Mission, TX. Saturday 1pm-5pm & Sun 10am-1pm. Conducting the seminar will be Lynn Fabia, Director & Founder of Society of Aikido Centers and David Fabia, Yondan. Seminar Fee is $40 for the weekend. Please bring jo, bo, and tanto. Both Lynn Fabia Sensei & David Fabia Sensei studied for over 20 years under the watchful eye of Bill Sosa Sensei. They also attended quite a few seminars with Rod Kobayashi Sensei while Sosa Sensei was affiliated with Seidokan. Their aikido is an excellent barometer of Sosa Sensei's teachings.

After Sosa Sensei's death about a year ago, Lynn Fabia Sensei felt that her own growth & teachings were better suited under the auspices of Society of Aikido Center, which she founded and directs. Sosa Sensei personally told me several times that he felt that Lynn Sensei was the closest to the aikido that he taught.

This seminar is open to all aikido styles and martial arts. We will be covering weapons work during the seminar so bring your weapons. David is the best ukemi specialist that Sosa Sensei ever saw, according to Sosa Sensei. Our seminars are filled with ukemi tips and ukemi safety! Everybody is welcome to come join us.

I was interested to see that they are asking people to bring a Bo, i've never really seen them used in aikido - so will most people be able to bring one?

Jo, Bokken and Tanto are the main weapons we tend to use...

I've been to seminars of folks under Hikitsuchi sensei where they often use a bo during their training. I've been taught bo ikkyo and bo nikyo (which are solo kata, not the ikkyo/nikyo techniques) from those folks. Tom Read sensei teaches a style called Aikibojitsu (http://www.aikibojitsu.com/) based on what he learned from Hikitsuchi sensei and others.

I wondered if that were the case ;) Just thought i'd ask to clarify.

Intersting to see that Jun has done some AikiBo - I'd like to see that someday.

It has to be said we do use other weapons in training for several reasons. (Getting a wack with a shinai does teach you something about your disarming techniques...)
