Aikido, hockey, and baseball

I attended a hockey game this past Saturday and saw two fights on the ice. Personally, I think the fighting in hockey is just a few steps removed from professional wrestling -- I'm much rather see them play than fight.

Anyway, I got to wondering what it would be like if one of the hockey players in a fighter studied aikido. Would it be possible to pull off good technique on the ice? What do you guys and gals think?

Along the same lines in baseball, I'd love to see a pitcher use a kokyunage to drop a batter who rushes the mound. Just once. I mean, geez, the last time somebody ran at me full speed I dropped him without more than a light touch. He did the same to me. Just a little off-the-line enter and BAM, down he goes.

I've never understood the emphasis you colonials place on traditional girls games. Hockey, should be played on grass, preferably by aggressive public-school types, not ice (the very idea). The scope for decent bokken work there is obvious. As for baseball, it's just rounders with a bigger bat for gods sake.

Now cricket, there's a manly game, for a start who else but a chap could get 5 days off just for one match?

Not a big sports fan myself but I did see a highlight/blooper clip once of a batter rushing the pitcher. The batter had his right arm cocked back during his approach and when he threw the punch the pitcher ducked it and the batter went a$$-over-teakettle. The pitcher never touched him, he just ducked at the right time.

I've seen some cricket and I even understood it pretty well, but having a competition last for days seems a bit...well...inelegant.

Seriously, I do believe that the best thing that they could learn from aikido is the non-agression point of view of aikido.

I would find very hard doing aikido movements on ice with skates. Not stable enough I guess. I have never tried it though.
Has anyone?
