Holy crap batman!! B&W footage of segal doing aikido.

*Actual* footage of training. He's pretty damn good!

Be aware -

(1) 25mb download. Either a fast modem or Getright is required I think.

(2)Lots of cool looking (non segal stuff). I like the chimp doing the spinning back kicks myself ;-)

(3) Its from Mcdojo - so it got a "if it ain't MMA it must be crap". vibe

lol

I have seen it, to be honest it looks like his Aikido works to me.

BUT THEN I HAVE NEVER BEEN IN THE RING OF STEEL TO PROVE IT!

Yes, but is there a chimp in that? ;-)

(Thank you - I had no idea footage was floating around. Is there a non Kazzaa way of getting it - folks tell me Kazzaa is bad for security problems and spyware)

Anyway, segal...aikido...good!

Try a web search for Kazaalite. It's supposed to have the same file sharing capabilities without all the spy/adware.

Try more, with edonkey you can find the complete video : "The path beyond thought".

Of course, you can also buy it in the official web site : www.stevenseagal.com

I just want to point out to all those who have slow connections but still want to sacrifice their modem and internet time for downloading this, that this is 25 MB (2,5 min), but the seagal part is about 20-25 sec. So calculate if it is worth the effort.

The Seagal part is exellent, I haven't seen it until now, but I was disapointed when I saw how short it is.

The aikido from Seagal comes from a 32 meg mpeg which I got from the net, (using kazaalite). I could upload it to a site if anyone knows someplace. It seems to be an old advert for Mr Seagal. It does not seem to be copyrighted but there is no way to tell for sure and I certainly would not wish to infringe any copyrights.

Personally I liked Beavis.

The one from Kazaa featured only seagal sensei. It shows him doing all sorts of aikido techniques and also shows him doing randori.IMO it is worth the download as we mostly see him doing aikido in his movies and it is only a short period like 4 or 5 sec at most but this clip featured 3 mins of pure seagal aikido.BTW I like his iriminage.

I love the timing of the Beavis/Butthead quote when Beavis was in "kung fu" training. :) Good job.

Heh...gotta love beavis and butthead :-)

Lots of cool stuff in that clip.

Zeljko is correct - the segal part is only 30 second long. My bad, I should have added that.

One the upside, we have a killer chimp, some hapikido, wushu, testicular trauma and a guy in a black gi full 'o' antigravity jumping beans.

There also some rather unsavoury snippets - guy getting kicked down stairs etc.

I wonder how old the segal stuff is - he looks pretty young. Does he still teach / practice?

Hi!

I did actually download the Path Beyond Thought video from eMule a few months ago, and the sequence everybody's talking about belongs to the end of the movie.

I must say it's a very good way to see Seagal's Aikido. And to see his philosophy of teaching.

But the video itself only portrays him doing his cool Aiki stuff and his students saying how wonderful he is in all aspects.

Sounds pretty much like and ego booster to me.

You want see anthing else than footage of his clases, seminars, and all that stuff. I'd have liked a more instructional video from him, since I think an important portion of the people that get in contact with Aikido is through Seagal. So why would you do a video of yourself that shows what everybody already know that you do?

What I did like pretty much is the way he teaches it. Everybody says in the video that Seagal teaches it in a practical way...

They define "Practical Aikido" as an Aikido training that you can use under a real, random, quick attack. Defend yourself from a punch, a kick, that kind of attack, and from the very beggining.

If you see the randori footages....MAN, those Uke looks more like Gang members on a full massive attack than Aikidokas...

That's a really cool thing to see, and to to think about...

If anybody else saw what I'm talking about, I'd like to know: Do you practice randori as THEY DO in the video??

I'll see if I can extract that part and post it for all of you to see it...

Regards!!! and Train Safely!

Can I jump in here and say that I would like to discourage people from posting copyrighted materials here on AikiWeb? Although discussion of copyrighted material is fine with me, this is not the place to be exchanging such. Thank you.

What confuses me is the point of that video?...

Don't bash MMA fighters because their goal is different than yours...

??

Not sure who that was directed at. Surely you can't mean me - I practice MMA alongside aikido.

I haven't seen anyone bash MMA on this thread.

I posted the clip because it was the first bit of elusive seagal aikido I had ever seen. It's pretty cool, so I thought I'd share it ;-)

Well, now *I'm* confused by your confusion ;-)

What exactly didn't you know?

Wait...you tell me what our confused abt...and uhhh...I'll get an interpreter for the two of us ;-)

Seriously tho, a McDojo (according to Mcdojo itself) is something like this-

http://www.bullshido.us/article_read.asp?id=71

I think they take it too far - any non MMA art must be a useless, money milking, ineffective, get quick rich scam. I don't buy that.

Personally, whenever anyone asks me, "how can I spot a Mcdojo", I send 'em to the RMA faq. It covers both "Old world" and "New world" Mcdojo's. (shock, horror, there are MMA Mcdojos)

http://www.shsu.edu/~stdgxd13/karate/FAQ.HTML

So, no bash on MMA or aikido from me.

El je to malo bolje?
