Greetings from Michigan! I'm a 5 yr survivor of stage IV non-hodgkin's lymphoma, paramedic, and father of a 5 yr old. So far in 5 classes, I feel a bit awkward, bewildered, yet very excited.
My cancer and treatments wrought havoc on my physical self; although I am pretty much "normal" again, there are many residual effects I am dealing with. Now, it seems there's a bit of distance between the mind and body that wasn't an issue before. Although this was not the only reason I chose to study aikido, I felt that this was an interest I should really pursue.

Welcome Joseph,
enjoy and train
Hi Joseph,
Welcome to the AikiWeb Forums, and thank you for your introduction.
And don't worry about feeling awkward and bewildered. I think a bit of that goes away after a couple of decades, but I could be wrong...

Hey Joseph,
I'm horrible with names so please forgive me if I make a faux paus here but have we met? I train at Seiwa dojo in Battle Creek too. I'm the round, bald guy on Tuesday and Thursday nights :D If we haven't met yet I'm sure we will one day and if we have I apologize for not remembering your name.
The forums here are cool and a really good source of info and other perspectives.
See ya on the mat (hopefully)

Thanks to all for the warm welcome to the forum, and thanks to Bronson for the warm welcome to the Seiwa Dojo in Battle Creek, Michigan.
Bronson: You helped me during my first class a few weeks ago. Right now, my work schedule has me on duty for the next three Thursdays and Saturdays on 24 hour shifts. You'll see me randomly due to this schedule. BTW, what is the status of the dojo in Kalamazoo?

Oh, duh...I remember now. I swear I don't know where my brain is sometimes :freaky:
Kalamazoo (Southside Dojo) is going good and strong. We've got a good core of students and the occasionals and drop-ins too. We meet on Tue & Thu from 8:30-10 and Sunday from 4-5:30 if you're interested in coming over.
Train safe

Bronson,
Please e-mail directions to the K-zoo Dojo (From M-43 if you could). I work at our Delton station every other day on my rotation. The distance is either/or, Battle Creek or Kalamazoo, but I'd like to visit and train there, too if it works better for me, timewise.
