mid price hard weapons?

I'm looking to get some weapons for the club - we've had a recent spate of white oak jos breaking (usually the move where you turn the wrist over and knock the other persons jo down seems to do it).

Unfortunately I don't think our funds will stretch to hickory or cherry. I was wondering:

are japanese white oak jo really that much stronger?

Does anyone know of a good distributor (pref. UK)

their jo prices are fairly reasonable, plus i think they offer a discount if you order tru a club (in bulk)
