View Full Version : Suwariwaza & Hanmi Han Dachi
How often are suwariwaza and hanmi han dachi practiced at the dojo you go to?
Just curious.

In my previous dojo (Ryushinkan aikido, Russia, Volgograd) we practiced it about 40-60% of all techniques.
Now, in Israels Nisshin-kan aikido dojo - it's about 10%. But our sensei knows this techniques very well and I think the problem is that near all students have some trouble with their knees.
Why do you ask?

not enough. I try to get at least 20% of hanmi-handachi suwari waza in a month, but more or less it gets diminshed. I once was with Yasuo Kobayashi (8th Dan,Shihan) and he was of the opinion that we now practice less suwari-waza and more buki-waza than he and all his peer group did. That in the 50's and 60's it was the other way around. Although my instructor was about 40% suwari-waza in class. So personnally my skills in seated technique are rusty.
