Is anyone else scratching their head on this? How did so many people get promoted this past year? That's A LOT of 5th Dans! If I were a 1st Kyu or Shodan I would be angry. With most of the world shut down due to COVID-19 and so many dojos closed. Those that require in-person testing are not able to. yet the higher ranks get promoted just because they exchanged oxygen the past year. Is this a lifetime achievement award? Do we not need to practice Aikido and expand the art and not just exist to get a promotion? Every year the ranking promotion board is a disappointment. It's more about money and politics than before. Aikido is going down the path of other martial arts organizations. Just pay your money and you get a promotion, no need to actually do anything. I see the Hawaii boys are promoting their members quickly and quietly before they disband their organization. Keep your eyes shut and Aikido will continue to decline. Peace!
