Life was so much easier in Sweden and Britain when I was young. One could always spot a serious physical threat when someone removed his glasses or his watch. These days so many wear contact lenses and so many do not wear watches - so how is one supposed to know?

This is where the ultimate sen sen no sen - strategy comes in. Anybody who approaches you without announcing peaceful intentions gets a bloody nose.

All the best to everyone :)

I would be more wary of people announcing peaceful intentions.
Give everyone a bloody nose. :)

hehe, I AM by nature a pacifist, just got inspired by an episode of star trek where Lieutenant Worf snaps at another member of the crew, exclaiming angrily: "Don't approach me unannounced, especially when I am eating" :)

I do think true sen sen no sen involves somehow feeling that an attack is about to come, the extreme extremity of sen sen no sen, I suppose, would be to assume everybody is out to get you and then "do unto others......". It does resemble the attitude I used to have in my youth - hit first, hit hard, keep hitting :) Luckily my attitudes have moved on..... :)

All the best

Open hostility and friendliness from a complete stranger are warning signs. Even worse if they come from the same person. :)
