I train twice a day on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Do you think I should get a second gi?
Thanks,
Jessica

Is it a light karategi type? Those are easy to wash and dry up within the day, but they usually wear off (specially the knees) within a year of intense practice. But if you have a heavy judogi type it should last at least a couple of years (never use whitener! the chemicals will eat the fabric). It never hurts having more than one keikogi.

Your training partners would probably give you a hint on whether you should get a second gi or not. Just watch their face expressions when you execute an Irimi nage :)

I train three days a week as well and only have 1. I bought the heavy weight one from Bujin and love it. I wash it when I get home and it's ready for the next round. I've had this one over five months now and it looks like it will last for quite awhile.
One for every day of the week you train is ideal - but it depends on how regular you want to do washing! Also, its nice to have a choice of gi thickness; 1 judo gi is useful (and I think looks better), but other than that I get really cheap karate gis; they are thin (therefore cool), and you don't care if they get ripped. However this will depend on your training style! You can never have too many gi.
Unfortunately I think men tend to smell more than women, so I pretty much have to wash my gi after every session (and the judo gis take forever to dry).

What happens when your 'only' gi rips? Do you skip training while it gets repaired, or while you find a new one?
Everyone should have at least two Gis.

When your gi rips , you repair it, if you can ! ....
Jessica you have got some good advice on your thread. The simple answer is YES, an extra gi will be an asset to you, and possibly if you can afford it more than one.
