Jo Composition?

Does anyone know the best material/wood for a jo. Assuming that smoothness, durablity, even weight, stregenth, and being lightweight are the necessary attributes, what is the best composition for the "ideal" jo?

As for personal preference, I like white oak and hickory for my wooden weapons.

Thanks, that was an interesting article. The "ideal" jo may not necessarily be made of wood, correct? What, of all the materials in the land(including wood), is the best to use as a jo?

I agree with Jun oak or hickory would be my choice for weapons for adults, our children however were introduced to weapons using ash weapons which are much lighter and easier to weild. I once had a perspex spiral jo, supposedly a demonstrations model, it looked great but was heavy and it shattered with astonishing violence.
