Randori in the Tomiki Aikido system can be performed as a "competitive sport".
But not everybody has to compete in Tomiki Aikido.
Randori is a method to test your skill.

Eddy, from what I find Tomiki Aikido is very popular in England and Europe. You are correct, Randori in our system can be competitive and I believe there are invitational and world conferences that showcase this. Here in the states not so much. Rarely are we informed of a Tomiki conference in the U.S. That link is great by the way.

Tomiki Aikido always has lotsa nice ideas. I like that video a lot. But one thing I would want to do is add Judo throws and trips -- but in a dynamic Aikido way, not a heavy resistant Judo way. Otherwise, you are always limiting yourself and working around what rules (beliefs) say you can't do. I say, extend your training, and if you enter a competition -- well, follow the rules of the competition during the competition and then ignore them in ordinary training (to create a more complete regimen of skills).
