~~Hi all!
Recently I separated my shoulder and have found that being one-armed and feeling vulnerable, I've really had to rearrange my mind and completely focus on those little things like...oh, you know, kazushi, ma'ai, de'ai, body integrity, relaxing, etc.
I've always learned many things from injuries but in time slip backward some...So, am I the only slow one out there who needs these extreme slaps in the face?

Not at all, Paula. Although I personally wouldn't suggest it as a training aid (hee hee!), injury is a major shake to any person's complacency. Daily training on the mat tends to be habit-forming and often creates a false sense of skill and/or security. Sometimes, particularly for rockheads like me, it takes a good cracking sound, accompanied by a sudden feeling of 'ouch' to A) remind us that we're mortal and B) force us to look at what we're doing in terms of protecting the body we've just hurt. :)

Many of us have learned wisdom from our injuries. Its is interesting that most of our best lessons are learned through pain, while seldom do we learn through pleasure. Go figure.

My injuries have taught me a lot too. My torn ACL happened because I was in a bad mood on the mat :grr: (we won't go into that), and my most recent injury, a nagging slight tear in my rotator cuff, is teaching me to really keep my elbows in to my body. Injuries are great teachers, sometimes the best ones us stubborn ones get ;)
