I got a 2mm L3-4 , 3mm L3-4 , and 5mm L5-S1 herniated disk while playing baseball. I am in recovery and getting better. Would participating in AIkido training, like the falling, effect my back?

It could Joseph, it certainly could. That's a better question for your orthopedist, assuming he has any idea of what aikido is. In some cases a sensei can help you train around a chronic injury, but that takes a serious conversation between you and your doctor and the instructor. You could show your doctor an aikido video so he has some understanding of what the art entails. Good luck and good wishes for a full recovery!

I'm with Micheal here, that sounds like something you want to be very careful with. Specially at the start where you're still working out how to move your body right in the fall. A friend of mine hurt her back ( but had a lot of aikido experience before hand), took a video around to specialist till she found one who wasn't horrified by what they were seeing :)

You are in recovery now? Let yourself recover first. While you are recovering take your laptop to the orthopedic doc you are seeing and show him some video and get his input. Make sure you find some basic Aikido to show him. :) I hope your recovery is quick and complete!
