My mom and her boyfriend, who are wintering in Tucson (they've retired to the proverbial RV), want me to visit them there, sometime around the holidays. Luckily, I've just started a martial art that's known for letting out-of-towners train, and my own school recently hosted a visitor to prove it!

My research has only turned up a couple of aikido schools, so I'm quite open to suggestions: where's a great place to pay the "mat fee" in Tucson?

Aikido of Tucson is a welcoming friendly dojo not far from the university. Affiliated with Aikido Schools of Ueshiba. Mike Hazard is the teacher. I recommend it and I don't know for sure but there may not be a mat fee. Have fun.

The dojo search engine (left hand side of the home page) shows 8 dojos in Tucson - there may even be one in your style....

Hmmm... I hadn't even bothered to sue that function, having assumed (wrongly, it's now clear) that Google Search would be enough! Thanks, although recommendations are still welcome.

I'm a Hombu/aikikai student, which seems to leave me with at least half the schools there as options....

It is a useful tool (thanks Jun!!!), and provides a very good starting point.

I have had AikiWeb users provide additional information that is not in the directory.

There is this school: http://www.shoubudojo.com/

The Sensei there is Cody Lewallen. He trained in Osaka, Japan under Miyako Fujitani. See if you can observe a class.
