Do you have any news on who were promoted to 7th, 8th and 9th Dans last night by the Aikikai?

Thanks!

I don't have any news, but it's worth keeping an eye on the Aikikai Hombu website http://www.aikikai.or.jp/eng/index.htm . Last year the online announcement was posted two or three days after Kagami-Biraki.

Congratulations to Suzuki-sensei and Takahashi-sensei. I see that they still haven't posted a complete list of promotions on the honbu website though. Does anyone have any more information?

Just came out:

Alex

I'm not personally familiar with any of these sensei's and I hope I have their names right, because name readings are particularly tricky. Anyway, here they are:

Hari Sunao
Shimada Goro
Arai Toshiyuki
Shigeta Shinji

My sensei, Kazuo Nomura, was promoted to 7 dan, and notice Peter Goldsbury was too! Congratulations!
My sensei hadn't been promoted in 30 years so we are all really excited.

Ha! I thought I had already seen you described as 5th Dan in various places, so I was surprised to see your name on the list...

Why are there only a handful of promotions to shodan while half the Aikidoka on earth apparently have been promoted to godan?

My understanding is that Kagami Biraki is usually just for recommended promotions. Since most Shodan is by examination it always seems a little lopsided

There is a Christopher Li listed for 5th dan. If that is Aikiweb`s Christopher Li, congratulations Chris!
Congrats Chris, now you are The Aiki Master!

Almost 7 years for registration? Or, it could be an error not picked up in proof-reading. I won't be surprised if you are summoned to Tokyo to pick up your new cert from Doshu :D

I was sure I congratulated Chris this time last year. A bit soon for rokudan, surely, even after spending all that time with Dan and Mike?

Somehow the 2012 thread got mixed with the 2011 (http://www.aikiweb.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19218&highlight=Kagami+BIraki) thread. Or maybe the years are just starting to blur together as I get older :)

Best,

it was noteworthy and special for me to see that 4 of the 7th dan promotions (and not to mention one 5th) in this list were people that started and/or played a big part in the history of my dojo.
Congrats to Hoa Newens, Pat Hendricks, Bernice Tom, and to my sensei, Kim Peuser.
Congrats to all others as well!

Wow, my dojo is seriously top heavy. Out of the maybe 10 regulars, two are on that list. Congrats, Peter and Andrew!
