Look, I have nothing against Canada - I'm half Canadian (my dad never did become an American citizen) but I have to ask WTF is up with people putting Canadian flags in their Aikiweb posts?????

OK, now you've got me curious and searching through posts looking for who you're talking about... can't find the culprit, though....? I see very few pictures in posts period, and have never seen someone put any kind of flag.

Basia, I see one on your post: to the left, there is your name, your user name, join date, number of posts, and beneath the word"online"....a Canadian flag.

I think that all members that doesn´t upload a personalized avatar gets a flag based on nationality (or rather what country that one have registred in the profile).

I think it's separate from the avatar as many people have both.

And I am kind of amused that you have been here for several years and apparently waited so many years to ask this :). I didn't realize that's what you meant. I don't know why it was the Canadian ones that jumped out to you among all the other countries (I think more people have a flag under their name than not - seems everyone gets one unless you leave your country location blank). Maybe because our flag is just the prettiest and most striking? :D

But no, it's not a massive show of Canadian patriotism, it's an aikiweb automatic feature.

You are right so I picked a poor example! But earlier today I was also seeing them in the bodies of posts of people who are not Canadian. I will grab a screen shot...

And now they are gone....oh this is too weird. Never mind.

Interesting phenomenon! It must be an aikido conspiracy. I shall use my forensic skills and investigate for you! :D

Hi Janet,
My posts have the Canuck flag. Now. When I was living in NZ they had the NZ flag. I went in to "preferences" and "Edit Profile", changed temporarily back to NZ and there was the NZ flag on one of my posts.
It's back to Canada. If you edited yours and wanted to put in "country" you could probably put up the stars and stripes...
Cheers.
Walter

Wow . What a nice flag. Those Canadians are so cute up there in their mukluks, living in their igloos and travelling around in their dog sleds. They spend the cold winters in their snow homes chewing whale blubber and plotting to overthrow the world with their guile and craft. They're kind of like gremlin's that you add snow to and they go crazy.
Never turn your back on a devious Canuck hiding behind that red and white blanket with a leaf on it.
You have been warned, do not tempt fate. Danger Danger Will Robinson (old reference to Space Family Robinson)

PS Which half is Canadian ??

I'm not seeing any flags other than the ones under people's names.

So if there is a Canadian plot to overthrow aikiweb or the world in general, I haven't been informed. People never tell me anything :(.

Some kind of weird advertising thing (some sites have them when you're not logged in, though I haven't seen ads on aikiweb)? A virus sent out by a hacker angered by all the hockey teams being bought and moved to the US? I don't know what else it could be. Hopefully just mildly annoying and doesn't really matter.

I have no idea what you're talking about, Janet; my country's flag appears right there under my name!.
