Howdy!!
I grew up in south Texas, and I recently acquired my 5th kyu in aikido while living here in Colorado; I earned a green belt in judo some years ago. I am glad I was introduced to martial art concepts and movements thru judo training first. It took me a while to learn to roll and breakfall without hurting myself(and I'm still attempting to perfect those ukemi techniques). When I first began aikido I had a hard time concentrating on coordinating footwork, arm position, hand position, and body position, and couldn't spare much thought for timing or sensitivity either at first. but I stuck with it and am improving a lil with each practice.
Since judo is a sport that takes advantage of uke's gi: hand position and arm position required less focus for me while practicing judo and I was able to concentrate more on footwork, body position, and ukemi.
But I am now loving aikido!! So much fun!! I love practicing forms. Sometimes I practice them slow and smooth, smooth and one at a time, faster and one at a time, smooth and fast, maybe 2 techniques at a time then pause...it relaxes my mind
Hi Albert,
Welcome to AikiWeb and thank you for your introduction.
