The Aikido Sangenkai (http://www.aikidosangenkai.org) is happy to be hosting Howard Popkin's first Hawaii workshop.
Howard Popkin is a long time student and instructor of Daitoryu Aikijujutsu and was the New York representative for the Daito ryu Aikijujutsu Roppokai before resigning to form the Daitoryu Ginjukai. He was also a long time student of the Daito ryu Aikijujutsu Kodokai, and practices and teaches Goshin-budo Jujitsu - an American offshoot of Hakkoryu Jujutsu.
Howard will conduct a seminar covering the techniques and principles of Daito Ryu, the system of Aikijutsu taught to Aikido Founder Morihei Ueshiba by Sokaku Takeda. This workshop will consist of principle based, body centered instruction and will be of immense value in understanding how to do Aikido or other martial arts with "Aiki". This workshop is open to the public regardless of style or affiliation.
Details TBA. Please contact us (http://aikidosangenkai.org/contact.php) for further information.
Best,
Chris

Shhh - they'll spot the trap! ;)
Best,

Isn't this what I have been advocating for years?
Here we have a group that is bringing in teachers from ICMA and JMA, and MMA.
It will be interesting to see what develops.
Howard in Hawaii!!

Yo, you need a beak from Hawaii - the poor fish are still traumatized from seeing you coming at them with a spear in your hand -

:D, and you just know the fishing will be great.
You do take better ukemi, you can teach that at the next seminar :)
hey guys, long time no post.
just popped in to add my recommendation that if you're available for this workshop and can swing it you should definitely do it.
i just dropped in and got to observe him teaching here in Phoenix today and was really excited to see how much the same there is between the Daito Ryu and what we do in ILC.
I know everybody has two arms, two legs, etc. so of course there's always overlap between arts, but many times I've found that some people train some BS concepts that just destroy any martial relevance.
Howard and I got to touch a little bit to just get a point of reference for what each other was talking about, so I can say that he and Dan are definitely going to be showing some cool / real stuff.
Hi Ashe,
Glad you got to meet Howard. If I was in the area, I'd have stopped by, too. :)

So Howard, is it true that once you go black gi, you never go back? :D
I think maybe you've completed your transition to the dark side. Darth Howie.

I'm sure you're every bit as terrible - but you can't be as terrible as we are...;)
Be great to see you, remind me when we get close!
