Dojo in Minnesota?

I'm new around here. Searching for a place to start learning in Minnesota. I see a few listed, a couple from MAAP and one from USAF. Any recommendations??

I used to live over there and still have friends teaching in the area. Where are you at (if Twin Cities what side of metro)?

Have you trained somewhere before?

There are MAAF, Aikikai, and Ki Society to name a few.

I'm in the south metro, but wouldn't mind a short drive. I'm a bit confused about MAAF, they don't seem to have a website. Is it a reputable association??

I haven't trained in the past, not in aikido at least. Just a year of this, year of that, nothing too serious. There is Twin Cities Aikido Center, which seems to operate under USAF, but I'm looking for some pointers before heading out to sign on.

The aikido I teach at Minnesota Aiki Shuren Dojo is the aikido Morihiro Saito Sensei taught in the early 90's until his untimely passing in 2002. As it was Morihiro Saito Sensei's mission to preserve the aikido of his teacher, Founder Morihei Ueshiba, it is my mission to preserve the aikido I learned directly from my teacher, Morihiro Saito Sensei, in the latter years of Saito Sensei's life- precisely as he taught it at the Founder's dojo (Ibaraki Aiki Shuren Dojo) in Iwama, Japan.

I have trained for Mark Larson at a seminar he had in Torsby, Sweden and got away with a very positive impression. Also trained with some of his students both at the Torsby-seminar and at Shibata senseis seminar in Copenhagen and found them to be big, strong and fun to train with.

Yes, MAAF is reputable. I am affiliated with them. It is a smaller organization set up by Yudansha in Seidokan and Aikikai. On the south side look at the Burnsville http://ensoaikido.com/ or West St. Paul http://www.kyoshinaikido.com/

I started out at the U of MN Aikido club which was linked to Twin Cities Aikido, but is now connected to Aikido of Minnesota http://www.aikidominnesota.org/

I have been to a few seminars with the Ki Society schools http://www.mindbodyoneness.com/

It is all in what you like. I would look at all of them and sign up with the school that fits you.

Having trained at many dojos in the Twin Cities area I would recommend Aikido of Minnesota http://www.aikidominnesota.org/. Some really great people with a great reputation. Also, I would recommend Enso Dojo in Burnsville http://www.aikidobukou.com/dnn/enso. Again some really great people to work with. I have personally trained at these locations and have nothing but good things to say about them. Good luck.
