A French friend of mine forwarded me this link to a video about aikido in France, filmed in 1964. Obviously, it's in French, but I just liked it for the kiais.

Nice, thanks a lot for posting! Main character is André Nocquet.

What I find interesting is that he insists Aikido was a fighting art for self-defence, while Judo - in which he was a 4th Dan - was a sport with a set of rules.

Even though I couldn't understand any of it, it was still really interesting. Good quality video too!

I don't get on my high-horse too much in Japan regarding the over-use of grammar translation in language instruction since any interest I had in learning French was destroyed in my own country the same way. So thanks for that information. Very interesting. I can only pick up snippets from the video myself.
