View Full Version : Mats Suggestions
Hello Guys
Our dojo will son be moving to a shared space with other Martial Arts , that means once moved we'll have to constantly assemble and disassemble our mats for practice and store our tatami after practice.
Keeping that in mind has anybody any recommendations for a brand/provider with online presence?
Thanks in advance
Otto.

We use Mancino Mats. They've held up quite well. The oldest set is 10 years old and are in great shape and we pound them pretty hard.

We use the 4'x8'.

I have 500 sq ft of mats from www.GETRUNG.com . Had them for almost a year, and am getting ready to put in another order for more.
They are 1 inch thick, and very durable. Stay away from the red, as it tends to bleed on uniforms (blue and black has not). I recommend buying the storage sacks.
The prices are straight forward, unlike most other companies who hide fees. Feel free to PM me if you have need more details or info about them.

We use the 2" Dollamur Flexi-roll on a concrete floor - works great.

Folding mats have their advantages and disadvantages.
When you fold up a 4x8 it does not take up much space, but you get 'seams' in the mat that tend to grab toes if you do not make sure they are put down closely together. 5x10 will give you less seams. The 4x8's fit in the back of my car when necessary.
As they age, the velcro can tend to wear - make sure you get at least 2" velcro on all 4 sides.
We use 1 3/8" on a raised hardwood floor, but if you are putting them down on a concrete floor I would consider a 2" mat.
The supplier I use (AAI) now offers 2 kinds of foam. One tends to be softer than the other, without having you sink in to far - and I now prefer it.
The covers used to be 14 mm?(whatever the measure is for this stuff) thick, now teh standard should be 18. Not sure if they are making thicker covers.
