So, no worries about damage to joints at this young age?

Any sport can damage joints at any age. As long as kids have teachers who can keep them in check, they should be alright.

Generally, Aikido is not considered a sport. That aside, how would a teacher makes sure that the repeated application of Kotegaeshi (for example, as it is in the grading) does not damage the very soft joints of a 6 year old?

By limiting the time that kids spend on such techniques. To be honest, my wrist tends to dislike repeated application of kote gaeshi, too :D

Very cool. I think this really illustrates what O Sensei believed when he said Aikido is for everyone. My 4 year old daughter wants to do this in a few years when she is old enough for the children's classes our dojo offers, so I will have to show this to her.
