Morning all, it has been far too long since i posted on here. I have still been training but i have also applied to the royal marines, so i have had a lot on my plate. Hope every one has continued the training.

Is anyone going to summer school this summer?

I am, 15 credit hours worth all through the summer... it's been killing me.

When do you hear back from the Marines?

May I ask if the principles you learned in the Aikido helped in your training to become a commando?

yep it will be a great course. I have my Potential Royal Marine Course 14th - 17th july then can start my 9 months training in october. all going well.

beleive it or not, i use a lot of aikido 'foundations' to my training, mainly press ups and sit ups and anything requiring a good sense of balance, i allow everything to come from my centre and it has helped enourmously, some of the lads who have never done aikido struggle at the end of had fitness sessions because there centre is all over the place. Aikido is also a different standard of being fit. i have pushed myself to the limits in my marines training, and then i come and do a aikido training class and at the end of it i ache all over, sweating, but i wouldnt change it for the world.

If you mean the BAF Summer School in Chester, yes, I'll be there!

The fact that there are different kinds of physical fitness is interesting. A few years ago we had a student in our dojo who was a long-distance runner at national standard, and went training most days in the week. After his first grading one of the examiners commented that, although his techniques were sound, he needed to work on his fitness. His face was a picture to see! We had a long discussion afterwards about how aikido fitness was different in many ways from athletic fitness, as it used many different muscle groups.

That means you will be doing the final tests in the summer! Good luck with that :D One of my few regrets are not following my plan to gain my commission in the RMC after university (long story!). The pride you will feel after gaining that Green Beret will make it all worth it. Have you any thought as to your specialisation?

No :( . I did the PRC when I was younger (17) and was advised to go off and finish my A Levels get a degree and come back for a commission. All through university I kept my fitness up and having a great commando body attracted (what I know now) a high maintenance girl friend that decided for me that a legal career is the way forward.(don't do that either!) By the time I decided to follow my desire to get my commission I was too old to apply for the POC. Unfortunately I live too far from the local RMR training facility to commit to that. I would like to get my fitness up to former levels, but the big chain at my desk does not let me march nine miles in ninety minutes with full kit and firearm.

I have a friend that completed his training about two years ago and says the adverts are true, it is all mental strength. Give the display team a go! I think those guys are hilarious!

Best of luck at Lympstone and beyond.

Phil
