Hi Tara,
There are tons of books and videos out there which might fill the bill for you. Talk to Wasserman Sensei and he can give you a couple of ideas that might fit best with your dojo and tradition. Good luck with your training.
Hi Tara,
Welcome to AikiWeb and thank you for your introduction.

Welcome, Tara.
I'm brand new to Aikido myself. The book I've found most helpful is "Aikido - Exercises for Teaching and Training" by C.M. Shifflett. The book covers everything from how to tie your belt, and words you need to know, to how we learn, how Aikido can be applied to verbal exchanges, and much more. It's a tremendous resource, and interesting reading.
You might also download the "Aikido - The Way of Harmony" podcast (you can find it on iTunes. There are 9 episodes. Nothing about technique. All about "what is Aikido?" Very valuable content from interviews with several well-known sensei and shihan.
Thank you for asking about what a first-month beginner should know. The answers were helpful to me, too.
