Thanks for your responses!
Here is a poll that I took on a similar topic that I took a while back:
How long does it take to get to your aikido dojo from home? - 2/22/2003

Onegaishimasu. When Aikido first came to the U.S. in the 60's and 70's, there were folks who thought nothing of driving 3 hours one way to practice 2-3 times a week.
In gassho,
Mark

Thanks Jun - I could not find any info in the forums.
This 45 second, 9 question anonymous survey goes *a lot* deeper than how far people travel to get to class. (Taps into Mark's above point.)
29 responses in a one hour has shown some very interesting data - my wife is a PhD researcher - she and I will give a summary of the results in 6 days.
Thanks to all who have replied so far!

I think that another important question is traffic. What kind of traffic do you face on the way to the dojo?
I live about midway between work and the dojo. On Wednesday and Friday, I go to class after work, and traffic varies with the school year. On a school day, it can easily take me an hour or a bit more to reach the dojo. Sometimes, the traffic is so bad that I don't even bother to dress for the class. I just watch what's left of it, and afterwards, I ask what I've missed. When there is no school, about forty minutes.
On Saturday and Sunday, class is at seven am. Traffic is still shy at this time of the day during the weekend, and I reach the dojo in fifteen minutes.

Thats a good point. If we have classes during school time, I would triple or perhaps quadruple the amount of time it takes... it reflects the added volume of traffic but also school zone where you are compelled to slow down (the speed limit drops from 60km/h (37mph) to 40km/h (24mph) during school times).

A lot of people think "too far" isn't miles/km or time - may be more of both, mixed with the idea of "what is too far".
This survey gets at commutes during weekday & weekend classes, both AM & PM. The results just might change how you think about what's "too far"!
In the past 18 hours, 65 members took this anonymous, 9 question survey.
Thanks to everyone who's helped out and to those who will donate their time!

The previous links will not work because it's a free service that shuts off after 100 responses.
Here's the same exact survey with a new link:

Pretty interesting information collected there. I'm surprised to fall under some of the more uncommon demographics (and how far some people go to train).
