Hello Fellow Aikidoka,
I'm a writer who supports himself by playing classical guitar. Or is it the other way around? If ever I feel conflicted about this apparent dichotomy in my life, I head to the dojo, or walk by the river and look for abandoned tree forts where I can sit and contemplate the overwhelming diversity of human endeavour.
As a musician, I play and teach classical guitar, and compose and arrange music for said instrument (www.Music4ClassicalGuitar.com (http://www.Music4ClassicalGuitar.com)).
As a writer, I pen short stories, observational pieces that seek to inspire people to re-discover connections with people and the world around them, and humorous and reflective pieces about aikido.
To explore more fully the latter stream, I have teamed up with a cartoonist (Jon Oaker) and we have published our first book -
"Aiki-Doh!-ka: An Aikido Lexicon".
As you might suspect, it exposes the lighter side of aikido.
We have created a web site (www.WeLoveAikido.com (http://www.WeLoveAikido.com)) to give our book a home along with the other projects we are developing and a blog to express all that aikido is to us as life unfolds.
I hope you'll drop in for a few breakfalls and let us know what you think...
Back to aikido - I study Yoshinkan aikido, and have about six years on the mat. Currently, I'm preparing for my shodan test, set to occur in a couple of weeks. My home dojo is the Aiki Budo Centre in London, Ontario; Jaimie Sheppard is our head instructor.
See you on the blog-o-sphere!
