Hi All,
Just a short introduction, my name is Randy and I’ve been practicing Aikido (Daito-Ryu Style) for about 4 months now and love it. :D I’ve been dragging my feet for quite a while about starting when my brother (testing for Shodan soon) finally convinced me to start, and I’ve been kicking myself for not starting sooner.
For other beginners, I’ve found the book “Aikido and the Dynamic Sphere” by Westbrook and Ratti a very handy text and helped me through all the new terms, etc.
Chow for now.

Following a 'books for beginners'theme, I rather enjoyed Saotome's 'Aikido and the harmony of nature', not because of technical terms, but because of O'Sensei & budo & Aiki ideas info
Didn't particularly like Kisshomaru's 'Aikido', though. A bit too dry, and not very easy to understand -Saotome's photos were better too
Hi Randy,
Thanks for posting your introduction! Welcome to the AikiWeb Forums.

Yes Oscar Ratti's drawings are amazing.
I think they can stand on their own as works of art.

Welcome Randy.
Between your brother, Dynamic Sphere,
and AikiWeb, you have a wealth of information available.
I can't resist mentioning "Total Aikido" by Gozo Shioda Sensei. This is a terrific book in my opinion, although I am surely biased since I study Yoshinkan Aikido.
Best regards,
Dean

I agree on the Total Aikido book, not only did I have that but the videos "Principles of Aikido" by Mitsugi Saotome and Seagal's "The Path beyond Thought". Now if Seagal's video dosn't motivate you in Aikido, nothing will. :D

Why is a thread from 2002 being activated? Do we have a problem?

Not a problem, just a new member who probably doesn't know the forum well enough.
