Please let me be an instrument of your peace, love and understanding,
Please let me have a loving, kind, patient, tolerant and joyful attitude,
Please help me to let other people be,
and please let me be of maximum service to you and others.

Whoops, I forgot a line.

Please let me be an instrument of your peace, love and understanding,
Please let me have a loving, kind, patient, tolerant and joyful attitude,
Please help me to avoid retaliation and argument,
Please help me to let other people be,
and please let me be of maximum service to you and others.

There that's better. ;o)

What a wonderful prayer. A pleasure to get to know you Mary.
Was that from Francis of Assisi

Prayer of St. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
when there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
Grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand,
to be loved as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying [to ourselves] that we are born to eternal life.

Yes, Chris. It is based on his prayer.
I had a little trouble with the St. Francis prayer so someone suggested the one written. It just works better for me ;o)

Well...

This kind of JKD'ish approach to the original prayer makes me wonder if abolishing the Inquisition was a good idea. :)

Not to side with Demetrio here but it is my understanding that we have burned people for much less that that. :p

As guillaume allegedly said " tuez les tous, Dieu reconnaîtra bien les siens"

I would hope that Saint Francis could inspire us all especially as we so closely came to intensifying the war in the middle east this last week. If we could only apply his prayer to those who fear us as much as we try to apply it to friends and family.

I suspect our reprieve (attack on Iran and Hezbollah in Lebanon) has only been averted until July or August.

Perhaps we can all think of Mary's prayer for its current value rather than its difference from Saint Francis' or even Muhammad's prayers for peace and justice.
