Just wanted to introduce myself.

I'm studying Aikikai under Sensei Jason Moreland at Northwest Arkansas Aikido, which is a satellite dojo of the Aikido World Alliance under Sato Sensei.

I just recently started training(about to start my second month). I tried to start once a few years back but ended up not being able to due to the fact that I was in the process of building a house and about to get married, lol. Ever since then I had wanted to come back to it.

I trained in Unified Fighting Arts under Sifu Marc McFann for two years before picking up aikido. UFA teaches Muay Thai under Ajarn Chai, Kali under Inosanto, Jun Fan Gung Fu under Inosanto, Silat under Herman Suwanda and Submission Grappling.

And I think that has just about killed my progress in aikido. I am now having to unlearn everything that I learned in those arts so that I can do even basic techniques in aikido class.

I realize that you probably don't see many people that transition from the "MMA" scene to aikido. It's usually vice versa. Feel free to shoot any questions in my direction.

Thanks all and good luck in your training.

Don't unlearn everything, just put it aside for a while. To unlearn means you feel what you have is worthless. It's probably more useful then you realize.

Yea, I agree with Don.

Welcome.

Same thing to you...if you have any questions about aikido feel free to ask away.

I did the opposite Aikido to MMA, so I have the opposite perspective perhaps?

Simply be patient. The scary thing for me was/is trying to put the aiki in your MMA stuff....you will screw up and lose and get humiliated...but it is worth it once you start seeing where things work.

Good luck...and welcome!
