hello my name is brian and it is a great honor to be in this site with people who have greater knowlege of aikido. I have studied Okuri Ryu aiki jujutsu. and i have been in aikido for about five months. what i was wondering is. has anyone ever heard of Keijutsukai and if so is it a good style of aikido.........thnx

Hi Brian,

All Aikido is good...it depends on The character and practice ethic of the Sensei and student. " You only get out of it, what you put into it ", a famous man once said....:)

Keijutsukai Aikido was founded by Thomas Makiyama Shihan, HachiDan. Makiyama Shihan passed away recently, he was quite an individual. I trained with some of his students years ago while I was in California.

Keijutsukai Aikido is known as the law enforcement/ military discipline of Aikido.

Keijutsukai Aikido has a different, yet effective, veiwpoint. It is more to the point without all the zen and spiritual aspects.

Where is your dojo located? I get up that way once-in-a-while, do they allow visitors?

Yeah, I've read about it and seen some of it, too. Many years ago, a friend gave me a couple of hours of instructional video by Thomas Makiyama, the founder of Keijutsukai Aikido. He's very distinctly of the Yoshinkan lineage, which is to say his posture and movements have that distinctive Yoshinkan quality. His aikido looked solid, if a bit rigid.

I'm not sure that Keijutsukai Aikido has any affiliation with any international Aikido organizations, which may or may not be of any concern to you. Makiyama sensei thought rather poorly of most other styles of Aikido, which he believed had largely lost their martial usefulness and vigor. At least, this is what I read in his published instructional manual.

I think you could do a lot worse in your choice of an Aikido style.
