I've recently started an Aikido intro class after several months of reading about it. My previous experience with athletics/sports has all been full-contact - hockey, rugby, boxing etc, so I'm finding that I have a lot to learn about relaxing and letting go of my pre-conditioned responses.
The decision to study aikido is really a part of a self-reclamation process I began about a year ago, when I made a firm commitment to take control of my physical and mental health. I began running and eating more healthy foods, and have progressed to the point that I am running 5k's, have learned to cook a variety of healthy, delicious foods (not just for myself, but my wife and kids as well), and have lost 30 lbs of sludge. I see aikido as the next step in this process, and am looking forward to continuing to challenge myself.
