I get Nick-eru, but I guess that is not really a nickname as much as an immitation of how my name can be said in Japanese.

When asked what the kanji on my sleeve or hakama says, I always answer "Taker of Souls".....then give the real explanation.

"Spike" is the nickname I gained in the senshusei course, and pretty much only aikido people use it. Also, my "mii" on the Nintendo is called "Spike" which my kids find hilarious.

"O-Hara" or Big/Great Center, a compliment on my ukemi? or my fondness for cheeseburgers???

One instructor used to lovingly call me "Chew Toy"...a few people picked that up for a while. :D

Great fun, those days...
