Ok... we had some sweet tatami from Okinawa for I guess a decade! She gets old like all things! We replace this sweet tatami with judo mats (one week ago) I can`t take big slip ukemi anymore! What is the advise on the panel about this? It does not slip under like cheap mats, it likes hard big falls! I am just adjusting right now!
Whats the scope on these sticky things?

I guess everyone is custom to this kind of mat but it is a strange transition for me

I train wherever Sensei wants. I don't think you should worry too much about the tatami. What if you are attacked outside, you won't defende yourself coz you don't like the ground?

When I started off with Aikido we only had the thin jig-saw puzzle squares that really hurt if you fell awkwardly. We frequently spoke and complained about this problem but now that we have the thick judo mats I can only say that the previous situation taught us how to take safer falls and learn better ukemi. Do not worry so much, concentrate on your Aikido. You will soon forget all about the new mats. (I wish we had real tatami...)
