Not sure where this belongs or if this has been posted before, but...

People always talk about internal energy and etc., but this is taken quite literally.

The video (and John Cheng's other videos) are interesting if nothing else. Thoughts and comments?

One has to be extremely gullible to believe the starting fire to the newspaper thing.

How do you reckon he did that?

Permanganate in the paper. Ignites with moisture. Hand close to paper. Moist.

We used to do chemistry demonstrations with K-permanganate when I worked in the education dept. of the science museum in Boston. As a mild oxidizer, it creates heat as part of a reaction, and there actually are quite a few substances it reacts with. I always thought the magic-trick version was done with glycerin, though. Permanganate is also an explosive when it comes in contact with acetic acid (present in vinegar), so there's more than one way to get a flame or a bang out of it.

I'm a fan of ammonium tri-iodide, myself. The chemistry students at my undergrad university used to mix up batches and paint it on doorknobs and other places people come in contact with. It is unstable when dry, and will explode with even slight physical contact.

Point being, there are lots of science "tricks" one can do to give the impression of "magic," "qi" or whatever. An educated mind is your best counterweapon and tool.

There is only one way to test this out...in the UFC.

It always comes back to that, doesn't it?

"We need to put the fire in the octagon; that's the only real test of its effectiveness!" :p

Hey back in the 70's and 80's people believed in everything. Ex. Uri Gellar and spoon spending.
