I guess if you put enough patches you'll either impress the other person so much they won't hit you or you'll distract them so much they don't know where to hit you. My observation is that those from the sokey dokey organizations have the most patches and stripes and the less traditional colors.

LOL!!! Thanks for posting that! I needed a good laugh!!! I'm also so glad that I study Aikido and don't wear any patches, designs, or crazy colors!

wicked funny. makes me glad my gi is white. easy to wash!!! what happens when you wash a black and white gi? does it have to be dry cleaned? although I must say....the pink and the leopard print really caught my eye....perhaps the pink one used to be white? maybe got washed with the red satin hakama?

there's something very wrong with 'hello kitty' on a gi.

The pink gi reminded me the story of Gene Lebell, the Judo champion. He went to Japan once to compete, and, just before the competition, he decided to have his gi washed. The gi came back to him clean, but with a strange light pink color. Was that a sabotage attempt? I do not know, but if it was, it did not work, because LeBell won the competition.
The next day, the local newspaper's front page proclaimed: "Radish Wins!"
Since then, LeBell has defiantly have all his gis dyed pink.
Maybe the guy on the U Tube clip is either a student, or a big fan of Gene LeBell, but can he kick butt like him?
:D

I'd fancy an acid-washed hakama myself...if I could afford it (anyone remember the '80s?)...with the obligatory strategically-ripped knees of course.

Def Lepperd rocks! Pour some atemi on me...

Celebrate diversity!

Personally, plain white karategi are just fine by me.

Yes, but what about homemade hakamas?

here in italy, there's a guy who wears a little Segal ponytail and pimped his gi with italian flags on the shoulders, like piccolissimi nationalistic epaulets. he takes brilliant ukeme, but c'mon, sometimes less is more.

And on Sundays they race in NASCAR. I love to rag on my friends who are BJJers as they seem to be pretty big on flags, names and patches. I refrain from ragging on them when we are on the mat though......not smart to goose a grizzly in a phone booth.

Oh my god that's even scarier than the original Darth Vader.
