Does your empty hand shomenuchi attack resemble the traditional sword strike motion (as you would with a bokken), or does it more resemble an empty hand knife-edge strike to the front of the head (directly forward)?
Just in case I'm ever attacked by an aikidoist, I'll know how to defend myself.

We do both versions. The sword like one as uke attacking, the direct one as tori initiating the technique.

Both...We also make sure not to 'telegraph" the strike.

Wood Sensei,
Not to hijack your thread, but I'm interested in how things turned out at Silver Lake and the thread disappeared for all the right reasons. If you've a mind to do so, please send me a PM at your convenience.

Mine is more towards resembling an empty hand knife-edge strike to the front of the head. I always imagine myself holding an empty wine bottle.
