i'm in two minds about the situation, yes they're campaigning for Tibet's freedom but the way in which they have gone about it has had the opposite effect

I don't think it has. Tibet isn't on the worlds agenda, and after the olympics it will be forgotten again.
Point is, these restrictions would have come sooner or later anyway, and they will end rather silently in a couple of years time.
