Best Dojo in Tokyo

Hey all, Long time no post I know, been really busy preparing for my long awaited education in Japan. I'v been recently accepted into Univeristy in Tokyo and was wondering what Dojo's you guys recommend for training. I'm with Aikikai Aikido, so no Yoshinkan please.

I've trained at Honbu before, I did enjoy the whole experience but would prefer a smaller more personal dojo. Could anyone recommend a dojo in the tokyo area. Around Shibuya preferred.

I don't know about best dojo in Tokyo, everyone will have their own opinions based on their own experiences.

When I lived in Tokyo I used to train at the Aikikai Hombu occasionally, usually Doshu's class in the morning whenever I went, which I always enjoyed. My regular training was with Nojima Masao Sensei (6th Dan) at the Honcho dojo in Nakano Shimbashi (part of the Nakano Aikido Renmei run by Koyama Kenji Kaicho). It's not too far from Shibuya. If you are going to study at the university you may want to consider joining the school's aikido club if it's compatible with your schedule. If it's anything like my personal experience I can say that being a member of a university aikido club in Japan will likely be a unique experience for you which you just can't get as a member at a regular dojo.

I definitely recommend Kobayashi Dojo.

It has 26 branches in the Tokyo area. You can attend as many lessons as you want to at any one of these dojos if you pay the fees at one of them, the same amount of fees how many times you practice.
There are some who practice six to seven times a week by going to one dojo in one area and another dojo in another area taught by different senseis.
The senseis are all great. They know both practice and theory. The members are all very friendly and like having friendship parties.
They hold a two-night and three days gasshuku (training camp) in Chiba in November every year, and each of the affiliated dojos has its gasshuku once a year.

You could also try the Shiseikan which is within the Meji Shrine grounds. Inaba sensei (8th dan) is head of the dojo and also teaches at Tokyo University so you can maybe find a link through that avenue too.
