Hi everyone,

I've just re-opened some sections of AikiWeb including these Forums, the Image Gallery (http://www.aikiweb.com/gallery/), and the Reviews (http://www.aikiweb.com/reviews/) section after upgrading the software underlying them.

There are still some pieces which haven't been updated all the way including the AikiBlogs (http://www.aikiweb.com/forums/blogs/), the AikiWall, and the chat area. I may have some of these sections re-opened as early as later today. I'll keep you all informed...

I'm also planning on updating and/or modifying other parts of AikiWeb, too. Stay tuned!

Please do let me know either in this thread or by sending me a message (http://www.aikiweb.com/forums/sendmessage.php) if you run into any issues.

Thanks!

By the way, you may see some "wonkiness" while I work on things, but they should be temporary...

Hi Jun,

What happened to the width? It's all stretched out to the screen size!

Also, my favorite feature, Views posts from last X days is gone...

Or is that all part of the wonkiness?

It looks like the user option for page width is being ignored. I'll take a look at than and see about bringing back the "Active Topics" dropdown.

Thanks for the report!

They should both be fixed now. Please let me know if otherwise.

Anyone else run into anything else?

Why do some posts come out in justfied (centered) format, while others are flush left? Can we format our own posts (and if not, can we have flush left again? Please? :D )?

As I do not see such behavior, can you please let me know exactly which posts are doing which?

What is your operating system and browser version?

Jun,
It's Windows XP and the latest Internet Explorer. Weird, but your post appears to me in justified format, while the one I wrote before it looks flush left (but when I first posted it, it appeared in justified format).

I guess it's just my wacky set-up then. Thanks for the reply.

No it's not. I am using Windows XP and the latest version of Internet Explorer, but all posts since Jun's upgrade are justified.

EDIT. As this post is: I just checked. When I wrote the post, everything was flush left, but when it appeared, it was justified.

NEW EDIT. No. I take it all back. Everything is now flush left.

NEW NEW EDIT. No, I take it back again. This last post was justified when I went back to the thread. It is now flush left.

Hello Jun,

The justification problem appears to have been fixed.

New posts are not appearing in the righthand column of the top page, but I suppose you are aware of this.

Hi Sara,

That's good to hear. I may introduce a more "pared down" version of the Forums for use with mobile devices and such that may work for you. I'll keep everyone posted.

Jun, I appreciate the new features, and certainly don't hold any glitches against you. The site has seen many improvements and I like most of them. However, sometime in the last couple of days the people on my ignore list have become partially visible again. For example, where before only a line saying "X is on your ignore list" appeared for the article, now there are the full details of the person taking up space, plus their signature below where their post would be. The only thing missing is the actual text of their post. Is it possible to get back to a more reasonable ignore behaviour?

Regards, Gernot

The active forum threads section on the front page doesn't seem to be updating as regularly as it was. Or is that another part of the wonkiness?

The active forum threads section on the front page doesn't seem to be updating as regularly as it was.
The active threads should now be getting updated a lot more frequently and also showing the threads with the newest posts.

Jun,

The Subscribe as a Contributing Member link (http://www.aikiweb.com/forums/subscriptions.php) on the Membership Info page @ http://www.aikiweb.com/membership/ doesn't work. It bounces me back to the home page.

Hi Jun,
A cosmetic thing - it looks like the forums page (www.aikiweb.com/forums) doesn't have an HTML title.
Cheers,
Daniel

Hi Jun,

Just noticed that in the forums, the text on people's signatures seems to be overlapping the text in the body of their posts (which obscures the last few lines).
Cheers,
Mark

Hi Mark,

Yes, I have been testing things out for the past few minutes. If you see something that's acting weird, please give it a minute or so to work itself out, as I may be actively working on it.

Hello Jun,

I have a problem with one of my computers.

When I do not log-in, the text of the posts and threads spreads over the whole screen. When I log-in, the posts and threads are bunched to the left of the screen, as now, and the whole right-side area of the screen, about two-thirds of the screen, is blank. My computer is a Mac G5 with an Apple 30-inch HD display. It has a powerful video card, so I think there is no problem with the software.

On my PC computers I do not have this problem.

I do not know how to solve it.

Best,

Steven

Hi Jun,

Not sure if anyone else is seeing this, but the "Quick Reply" box is way off to the right and no longer centered with the rest of the page. I'm seeing this on IE6, IE7 and FF2.x on two different systems.

Also, could you put the "New Posts" link back in the middle? It's not a problem really. I'm just use to seeing it in the middle and keep clicking the "Archived" link.

Jun,

Yes -- Windows XP Professional. After rebooting, the issues now only appears to be with IE7, however, other forums using the same software are not having the same issue. I suspect it is something in the upgrades?

I have the same problem, but only with MS Explorer. With Apple's Safari there is no problem.

Please don't hesitate to let me know if this isn't the case of if you find anything else that needs attention.

Hi folks,

I've installed a spellchecker but have only been able to test it under Firefox 2.0 on my Macintosh here. You should find the "Spell Check" button below each message text area next to the submission buttons. The dictionary should contain a lot of aikido terms and names.

Please let me know if you run into any issues with the spellchecker and I'll look into it.

Thanks,

Jun,

Cool! I'll post a message about aikido, budo, and Ueshiba to see if the spell checker picks them up. :)

Course, I could add shinto ryu, yoshinkan, ki society, hombu, honbu, tomiki, yari, jo, jodo, ikkyo, nikkyo, sankyo, yonkyo, kotegaeshi, shihonage, iriminage, shiho nage, irimi nage, kote gaeshi, kokyunage and kokyu.

Checked with the Spell Check button and all it caught was "honbu". Impressive.

Oh, I'm working off of Win XP Pro and IE 7.0.

Thanks!
Mark
