It's quite common... there are a number of regular gaijin (been there for years and years), in addition to those who visit for a few months..
You might like to take a look at 'The Empty Mind' clips on the Aikikai Hombu Dojo at youtube (http://www.youtube.com) - just search for 'empty mind'. There are lots of keiko scenes and they interview a 'gaijin' at the beginning of the segment on the Aikikai
BTW, I have the Empty Mind DVD and it's really well done.. highly recommended

There were always a lot of foreigners training whenever I went there.
Just watched the first part on youtube. If I'm not mistaken Doshu's uke at about 4:59 is his son.

Just watched the second half, quite enjoyed that and have ordered one of the last 4 copies of the original DVD on Amazon. Thanks :)

The section on Hombu Dojo was filmed around the time I was there... although I never could get up to attend the early morning classes :)
Lots of familiar faces, really brought some tears to my eyes...
BTW, may I know who is the sensei giving you a hard time in your avatar image?
