welcome to aikiweb, stan
i never met paul sylvain but started training in a usaf-wr dojo on west coast just in time to read his obits/peoples' remembrances; he sounded like a great teacher.

Instructors in my dojo speak highly of Sylvain's aggressive & powerful technique. Its always interesting when someone can use the word "monster" as a compliment.
Based on the small bio you offered, I'm sure you have an interesting perspective on some of the discussions aikiweb has been having the last few years, particularly the 'kokyu wars', and discussions of 'effectiveness' (often in regards to the streets or the need for sparring/ non-cooperative ukes).

Hi Nick,
Paul sensei was definitely a force in aikido. The problem with kokyu or peng in the taiji world is that our level is low compared to the old teachers. I think Dan Harden has a good understanding of this and the issue of effectiveness.

hello Stan,
Nice to meet another taiji guy--and newcomer to aikiweb. It sounds like you've had the good fortune to meet some skilled MA teachers to work with. I look forward to whatever insights or experience you can share in discussions here.
best,
Thomas
