My name is Erin. I have been involved with Aikido since September 2006, when I signed up for a public course offered by a local dojo (Aiki Budo Centre at Carling Heights CC, Sensei Jaimie Sheppard, 4th Dan).
I am a 36-year-old, stay-at-home mom of two little ones, aged 2 and 7 1/2 months. I was desperate to begin doing something active, lose my lingering pregnancy weight, and get out of the house for some much-valued 'me' time.
I could have signed up for an aerobics class or something of the like, however I very much wanted to maximize my time and energy, and opted to try Aikido, in hopes that I could not only get on the path to being fit again, but to also exercise my mind in the process, a part of me that had become rusty from disuse.
Now, two months later, I am - quite simply - loving it. The people are amazing - friendly, helpful, challenging. I come out of class feeling much more refreshed and focused. It can only get better, I imagine.
I'm very happy to be part of the local Aikido community and very happy to have found AikiWeb in the process.
Hoping to get to know you,
Welcome to AikiWeb and thank you for your introduction.
